    Editorial.

Question: How do you raise R53 674.00 and enjoy some good fellowship at the same time?

Answer: Ask Rotarians Peter Long, Glen Mukheiber, Cameron Scott, Gianna Doubell, Bernhard Rupp, with help from Marlene Kruse and today’s guest Alana Wyss to arrange a Golf Day.

Altogether 132 golfers (33 teams of 4) descended on the Humewood Golf Club to participate in this year’s fund-raiser.

Although the weather could have been kinder the day was an outstanding success from every point of view: the number of participants, the great fellowship that was enjoyed, the involvement and support of Rotarians and of course the money raised that will be used to improve the lives of many in the community.

When she addressed the Club Gianna was at pains to thank the many Rotarians who donated prizes. This meant that none of the profits had to be spent on purchasing prizes. She also stated that the auction alone raised the remarkable sum of R16 000.

R53 674 is the greatest profit ever made at the Golf Day and the above committee and their helpers deserve special praise for the hard work they put in.

We need to remember that when this sum is turned into a Matching Grant it would become a very impressive quarter of a million rand!

Take a bow all of you!

    Welcome and  President’s announcements.

President Ian opened the meeting in a more sombre mood than usual.

He was obviously in some sort of shock after Grey’s surprising(?) loss to Selborne over the weekend.

PP Lindsay however was delighted that his 13A team had completed the season unbeaten, with 15 wins out of 15.

    Reminders

    • August is Membership and Extension month. Do you have a nomination?
    • Nominations for Vocational Awards need to be handed to Glenn before the end of the

    month

    • Cricketers available for the international Rotary festival in Durbs from 7-13  March are to contact George a.s.a.p.

    Our Speaker

Tanya Wyatt topic was “Water” and, from the number of questions at the end, clearly  enthralled her audience.

Some of the points she made:-

    • Dehydration is a normal complaint of many of her patients
    • Drinking copious amounts of water helps the body to cope with allergies
    • The quality of the water coming through the taps is questionable and needs to be filtered, preferably by reverse osmosis
    • Tea and/or coffee leaches water from the body
    • Two glasses of water some time before a meal is good.
    • Avoid water stored in plastic containers
    • The benefits of water are a) improves the efficiency of the immune system

    b) cleanses the body

    c) lubricates the joints

    d) reduces arterial blockages etc etc

Her message that water is better for us than beer however was questioned by some Rotarians!

    Forthcoming events.

    The Sergeant -PDG Fred Roberts

Fred does things by the book and in style. And today was no different.

Resplendent with his sheathed sword, commanding presence and authoritive voice he reminded us that the duty of the Sergeant is to ensure that this Rotary meeting was to be conducted in an orderly and dignified manner.

He reminded us that there were 3 birthdays in the offing:-

    Heather Rauch on 21st

    Joan Osborn  22nd

    Gavin Gilmer 23rd

No wedding anniversaries are celebrated in the coming week.

Fred fined a number of Rotarians including:-

Neil Crawford for the Grey 1st XV loss to Selborne. (In his absence Tony Oshry was asked to pay up).

Pres Ian, who very bravely  addressed a letter to the editor on the P.E. municipal strikes in while he was on holiday in Oz.

Fred called on Father Christopher to recount his experience in the Greenacres parking area the other day.

It appears that Christopher noticed a spritely 50 year-old man unlock his car which was parked in an area reserved for the disabled.

Christopher, with his booming voice, called out to the man and the nearby shoppers that he had just witnessed a miracle!

A man who was disabled a few minutes earlier when he parked his car had undergone a miraculous cure and was now fully restored to health!

Embarrassed, the guilty fool had a predicable two-word response (words I may add that should never be addressed to a member of the clergy)

Well done, Christopher.  Louts like this need to be publicly embarrassed

    Vocational Readings - Bob Wynne

Start each day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude

    Centrefold Ladies

Michelle Brown (”Fab at 50″) and Lindsay Ziel (”Sexy at 60″) are to be congratulated on making the centre page (centrefold?) of La Femme this morning.

    Well done ladies!!!!!!!!
